First Impressions: Taos Starsky

First Impressions - Taos Starsky: A great casual staple for guys.

The concept is simple. A classic looking sneaker with real support. Taos has had a home run for years with their Star and Plim Soul line of sneakers and they’ve finally adapted it for men.

The upper is made of a soft canvas. This, along with the padded collar, gives it a very comfortable feel on the foot. No need to worry about the material breaking in a bit to give you extra space. I measure a 10.5 Medium/Wide and found the 11 Medium to be a perfect fit. Taos recommends most people go up a half size in the Star and Plim Soul, so it isn’t surprising to do the same here.

The insole is the real star here and what helps this shoe stand out from other canvas sneakers. It’s combination of a strong arch support, metatarsal pad and shock absorbency feel great on the foot from the moment you stand up for the first time.

My feet are very flat and I normally have to put an arch support in most of my shoes. I’m happy to say that’s not the case here. I was able to wear the Starsky all day without ever wanting for more support. My feet, back and knees felt great after a full day of walking.

The look is fairly simple, which I think is a great thing. It’s not trying to be super trendy and will be easy for most men to wear and not question how it looks. It’s the perfect shoe for a casual day out walking around town or for a night out with the family. It comes with color matched laces as well as a more standard white lace, which I think is the way to go.

I’ll be honest, I’ve been impatiently waiting for this sneaker to arrive since we first saw it last June. I’m happy that it’s finally here and that men have this option too.
